Persistent cookies (also called a permanent cookie) are written to a user's hard drive and remains on the user's hard drive until the user erases it. Persistent cookies are used to collect identifying information about the user (what sometimes can be dangerous), such as Web surfing behavior or user preferences for a specific Web site.
